Last week FCP6 on G-5 PwerMac stopped recognizing Firewire connection. Changed to new cable and tried with several cam-corders – still no luck. Any suggestions?

I had this happen with a G5, took a generic cheap 3 xFireWire input PCI card from a PC and installed it in a spare slot, worked a treat.

I concur. You’ve changed the cables, and the camera…so the culprit has to be the ports. They went bad.

I put in a Firewire PCI hub card and connected my external hard drives. They work fine but still nothing to the cameras…. Should I reinstall FCP?

Trash your FCP preferences. It’s quite common for a corrupted preference file to be the cause of non-working FireWire in FCP.

How exactly do I trash them? Are these the preferences listed after the program is open or is a preferences folder in the system folder?

Thanks. I trashed the FCP Preferences and verified hard drive- restarted and it still does not recognize the firewire.
