Final cut pro export different then what is in timeline
Okay so I just got final cut pro 7 and I wanted to make a video today. When I finished all the video work I exported it and when I played it at certain points the video is completely different then what I was seeing in the preview window in FCP. So I go into final cut and adjust the clips so that they are completely different lengths and look different when I go to play the sequence. I exported again and now it looks more like what I want, but I am pretty much flying blind now.

It certainly sounds as if you’re editing h.264 or MP4 files. Right?
If so, now you know why there are thousands of posts here and all over the Internet advising users that they must transcode those video file types to ProRes 422 before editing.

I used to use dvcpro as the sequence and clip settings, I have it set to that in Final cut pro so I do not know why I am getting this proble.

FCP Express supports h264?

yes it does, but I have not been using H.264.

I have been having the exact same problem!
the video file is h.264 at 5.1 MB/secwhen i export it for quicktime movie or use quicktime conversion, the video footage gets completely out of order.
i see David Weiss’s post about “transcode those video file types to ProRes 422”, but is that “all”? and can i do this to an entire batch of footage at once? i’ve got 50 gigs that will all need to be transcoded.
i have experience with editing, but all of the CO/DEC stuff really baffles me.
David could you please provide a link that you think has the best solution for transcoding?thank you so much,

Just to make clear….
You dropped a DV-NTSC clip into a blank sequence and FCP made a match?
Have you tried exporting using “Current Settings”

The sequence settings are set a dvc/dvpro ntsc. I have never had this problem before.

ok, so i drop the files onto compressor and apply a quicktime setting it looks like.
thanks so much for the info about h.264… wasnt my camera, i just thought the files would be good to go.
