Final Cut Pro CRASHING!!
Hi,
We’re cutting a drama on FCP and it keeps crashing. We’re not sure if it’s a drive speed issue, or Blackmagic issue.
These crashes did start happening after we installed a Blackmagic HD Extreme3.
The project is being cut using XDCam EX 1080P25(35mb) Codec and all the data is on one Firewire 800 Drive.
The project is big, but not too big. 1TB Media. 60mb FCP Project File.
Here are our system specs: Powermac Quad 2.5ghz. 12Gig Ram, Blackmagic HD Extreme3, Nvidia Quadro 4500. OSX 10.5.7. FCP 6.06
Is the Blackmagic to blame for these crashes.. is it a drive issue.. a GOP XDCAM issue??
The crashes happen suddenly, especially when scrolling past media.
Any suggestions?

I think that single drive is too slow. You should have at least a 2 drive FW800 RAID. Single drives should really never be used for editing video.

XDCAM is just a bit heavier than DV and plays even in FW 400.
Anyway slow HDs should make to crash a computer.
Start by optimizing your system: Rebuild directories, permission etc.
