    Hi,

Final cut pro carshes every time I try to watch clips in the viewer.
All of the imported clips are .mov files which were converted from VOB files. The are all stored on the same drive as the project.

When I try to watch the clips it plays the first couple of seconds, very jerky, then crashes.

What can I do to stop this happening?

Please give exact information. Check movie info in the QT player or item properties for full information on this media. What hard drive holds this media? What computer are you using?

    All the best,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

I’m editing on an iMac using Final Cut Pro 5.0.1.
The files are all on my iMac hard drive.

The files are Quicktime Movie files, codecs: Mpeg4 Video, AAC Audio

These files were ripped from DVDs using a programme called Prism.
It is the only free software I could find which would rip straight from DVD to Quicktime movie, but this was the only codec option.
I also tried using Handbrake to rip from the DVDs to AVI, then converted the AVI files to .MOV, but the loss of quality was too much.

What is the best way to get footage from authored dvds (non commercial) and into Final Cut Pro with least loss of quality?

You might want to give MPEG Streamclip a go to create a “friendlier” format. That works pretty well for most.
