I am having problems editing in multiclip in fcp. I am a moderate FCP user not an expert. But when I drag my Canon 5d footage to the sequence, my unlimited RT option is gone. So I can’t play my sequence and use my multi-clip functions.

Now when I go and set up the sequence to lets say DV 24p (not HDV 1080p, like i was trying to do), the unlimited RT option reappears and I am able to use multi-clip again.

Please if anyone can give me a solution to this. I just want to use multi-clip with my 1920×1080 (h.264 codec) MOV’s from my canon 5D mark II.

    Thanks.

ps. I am using FCP 5.1

Welcome to the FCP Creative Cow forum.

You can’t edit with h.264. This is asked 100 times a day.

If you plan on working with footage from the 5D, you need to upgrade your version of FCP. You also never mentioned which Mac you are using. That makes a huge difference.

Thanks. I figured it was something obvious.

I am using the latest mac (intel 8-core, 14 gb ram, leopard) and running the 24p firmware update with my canon 5d.

I tried it on final cut pro 7 and had the same issue, i considered converting my footage to proRes, but i didnt want the huge file sizes, since i am not using Raid drives or anything.

    Thanks for the knowledge,
    Luis

use FCP 7. And use the ProRes Proxy for small size. It’s great. And you can reload at the even better ProRes compressions when you’re done. It solves a ton of problems.

Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

If you don’t upgrade to FCP 7, then you can use cpressor to convert to DVCPRO HD with Compressor. You can’t use prores with 5.1.

And you can’t edit h.264 smoothly in FCP. Search the forum for the daily advice we give.

    Luis, you are in luck:

Just this past week Canon released a plugin for FCP that allows you to use Log & Transfer to bring the 5D footage in as ProRes. I’ve tried it and it works like a charm. No need any more to go through Compressor. And it’s faster than Compressor.

Here is the link to Canon’s site with instructions how to use the plugin and a link to download it:

    https://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3249

What’s also VERY cool is that this plugin allows you to use FCP log & transfer to make a disk image clone of your memory card, allowing you to back up your data in the field. The disk image can be used for log & transfer, if you like, when you get back to the studio.

    Enjoy!

The plugin will not work with his version of FCP. It will only work with FCP 6 & 7

    Heys,

Thanks for all your responses….I will be editing at a friends computer with FCP 7 now. Thats my best option right now.
