I was wondering if this scenario was possible using Final Cut Pro…

Link up 2 Sony HVR-A1U cameras via firewire (or whatever).
Control them both simultaniously (hit “record” so that they both begin recording simultaniously)
Control them both to PLAY simultaniously from the beginning (same frame).

    Does this make sense?

    Nope.

You can’t connect more than one Video device (Hard Drives don’t count) to the FW port(s) of a Mac.
It loses the ability to operate or “see” the video devices.

You could try using the remote controls for the cameras (if they have remotes!) to do what you describe. Both cameras would respond to the same signal from the remote and switch modes (play or record) at pretty much the same time. Depending on what you are trying to use “synchronized” cameras for…it could work. Just a thought…

DUH! I just thought that through and it quite possibly could work!? I’ll let you know if it does or not…
