Hey all I’m wondering if you can help me out. I’m currently having trouble capturing to FCP from my black magic device. Pleaaaaaase can you have a look at the set up im using (listed below) and tell me what settings I should be using. It would be greatly appreciated. I am using the neweest version of FCP and on the latest version of a mac pro

Objective : To transfer audio and visual from betacam sp to final cut pro.

The betacam sp is connected using s – video and connected to black magics decklink 7.6.3.
it goes to (y in) and (b-y in). audio is connected via xlr cables to the correct ports also.

    SETTINGS:

    decklink system preferences :
    settings:
    input = s-video + analog xlr audio
use 1080p not 1080 psf is ticked

    final cut pro settings
user preferences > Audio OUtput > Stereo l+r

audio and visual options > summary tab >
Sequence preset = Blackmagic HDTV 1080p 24 Apple Pro Res HQ
Capture = Blackmagic HDTV 1080p 24 Apple Pro Res HQ
    Device Control = Non controlable
Video Playback = Blackmagic HDTV 1080p 24 Apple Pro Res HQ
    Audio Playback= bLackmagic audio

these settings worked a few weeks ago when i done the same thing with a vcr machine instead. Am i missing something here?

    any info would be great.

Do you really mean Beta SP? If so, all your settings are wrong. Those settings are for HD 1080p high definition at 24fps. Beta SP punts out standard def at 25 or 30 fps (PAL or NTSC) so you’re on to a hiding for nothing. Decklink settings should be OK, but you’ll need to use a different setup for digitising. I’m not in front of my Blackmagic equipped Mac right now, but it’ll need to be something like Blackmagic NTSC ProRes422 as a setting.

    hey,

yea thats what i originally thought, i had everything set up to go from my beta sp through s-video and into fcp under pal settings, but when it wouldn’t work i was advised to change to the hd settings.

When i did this with vcr transfers last week i had the pal settings and it worked fine, going to go back to using those now and find out exactly where the problem is.

    cheers .

Choose proper input in Decklink System preferences. Input component.

in FCP choose Easy setup ->Blackmagic DV50 or 8bit.

    New project

    Capture

That should be it. Easy setup is your friend.
