I love this site and always find help along with good answers whenever I post here. I’m an Avid kind of guy and have been recently working with Final Cut Pro at work. I have a movie that I’m exporting and there are 6 audio tracks. I know how to mix them down in Avid, but not FCP. How do I go about this? I’m exporting to AppleProRes(HQ).

Also, I was curious as to what is the difference between Linear PCM, AAC, Apple Loss less, AMR Arrowband, IMA 4:1, iLBC, and Qualcomm PureVoice?

Thanks a lot. Any answers are well appreciated.

Check you sequence settings and see how many outputs are mapped in FCP. Chances are it is already mixing down to stereo. If not, then make sure that the track output patching on each track is to Channel 1&2 output. The way to check is to right click on the audio tracks near the lock icon. The manual is also very helpful in explaining audio patching in FCP which is really very basic.

If you are making a ProRes master clip then Linear PCM is what you want. AAC and all the other audio compression codecs that you mentioned are useful for lower res web files, not a hi res master file.
