final cut pro 7 mouse lagging
I’ve got a really odd issue that’s cropped up the past 2 months with my FCP.
When importing clips into my FCP browser, I have to wait about 10 seconds before FCP will allow the mouse to drag it into a folder for organization. I can click and click and click until my fingers are blue, but the FCP won’t let me move it. However, FCP will let the mouse immediately double-click the newly imported clip and send it to to the Viewer window for viewing, trimming, or pasting into the timeline.
At first I suspected the cause as some kind of a conflict coming from a new wireless mouse, purchased at the same time as I recognised this issue. However, I have ditched the wireless mouse and gone back to a corded USB mouse. No change, there is still a 10 second lag, so I don’t believe is has anything to do with the mouse.
Has anybody ever heard of this quirk? Is it an FCP setting that has gone wonky? HELP! This has slowed my workflow down to a crawl.

The individual clips are created in After Effects 6 and their somposition settings are:
HDTV 1080 25
1920 x 1080
25FPS
square pixels
7.9MB per 8bpc frameThey are exported as:
Format: Quicktime
Channel: RGB
Depth: Millions of Colors
Color: Premultiplied (Matted)In FCP, the project settings are:
HD (1080 x 10820) (19:9)
Field Dom: Upper (Odd)Quicktime Video Setings
Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i50Audio Settings
Rate: 48kHz
Depth 16 bit

First off, the AE specs don’t list a CODEC. Animation? ProRes? Uncompressed? QUICKTIME isn’t a codec…it’s a container.
Second, DVCPRO HD is an old and lousy codec anymore. Unless your footage you shot is that codec, you should not use it. it’s not full raster 1920×1080…it’s super anamorphic, 1280×1080.
