  • Final Cut Pro 6 Preview Disabled

im using a macbook pro, 2gb memory, 2.33 ghz intel core 2 duo, osx 10.4.10, with final cut 6. my dv deck is a sony hvr1500. im connected with 6pin firewire. when trying to log and capture im getting the preview disabled message and color bars in the video screen. final cut recognizes the deck “vtr ok” and it also recognizes timecode, but no picture. there is a small monitor on the deck so i know that the video and audio is being read on the tape. the communication with final cut is not working. i have material on a fuji dvcpro tape and this is how the program reacts when im trying to log the tape. i also have some footage on a sony dvcam tape and the preview/log and capture works fine. the deck and FCP should both be compatiple with the tapes. the deck reads both tapes prefectly fine and i can see and hear it on the dv deck monitor. im trying to figure out why the preview disable screen is coming up when i use the fuji dvcpro. any suggestions? ive tried the shutdown reboot restart. im pretty sure that my settings are correct. and i also downloaded the latest quicktime and that didnt do anything (i read somthing about that while i was researching the problem.) i just really want to get the show on the road, obviously. any help is appreciated.

Man, that’s strange. I don’t know of anything that would cause that.

You might try deleting the FCP preferences.

Sometimes I have a similar problem where one of our systems won’t see the video in Log and Capture. Usually just restarting FCP fixes it.

    Good luck!

I just tried trashing the prefs – quit FCP first! – and deleting the QT files as suggested. It didn’t seem to work, so I tried unplugging everything and starting over. I opened a new project and I was able to see the video and capture it. I then went to my original project and now it works. Not sure which thing fixed the problem, but it’s working now.

I think troubleshooting by seeing if the problem persists in a new project is a good place to start.

Hi, i have the same problem in two Macs, Macbook pro intel and PowerPCg5, Note that “iMOVIE” works fine without a problem, but FCP 6.0.2 is not, I think that the problen start with the apple pro kit update or pro application update, at this point We are reinstall FCP.
Is a new “APPLE WINDOWS” ISSUE, few weeks ago the issue are SEARCHING FOR MEDIA, and this week PREVIEW DISABLED.

I have been using FCP6 for around 6-8 months and have not had any issues until just recently. Now I seem to be experiencing the same problem when I connect my Canon GL2 and try to Log and Capture. I have a Mac Pro and the only thing that has changed recently was the addition of a Lacie Big Disk Extreme + Triple, which I have connected via FW800. I have noticed that when the Lacie is off, L&C seems to work fine until it is turned on and then the problems start again. Any thoughts as to why and possible fixes? Thanks.

Hi all, at this moment I work with FCP 6.0.4 , and the solution for me when preview disabled appears is quit FCP shut down the mac and, before to turn on again , first connect the camera FIRE WIRE, turn on the camera and then turn on the mac , when mac and the camera is on I turn on the external HD fire wire 800 and 400, open FCP and I can remote and operate the camera with log and capture, I think that the problem is the order to connect and turn on , when FIREWIRE devices is present. Whit FCP 6.0.4 and sistem 10.4.11 / 10.5.5 and quicktime 7.5.5 the problem is fixed in 80% .
