I just installed 8 more GB of RAM (for a total of 10GB) on one of our new Mac Pros and though the RAM works fine, Final Cut can’t see it. In the System Settings/Memory & Cache tab it say 2560 MB of RAM available. I thought trashing Preferences would fix it but it didn’t. Usually I use FCP Rescue but that is not working on any of our new Intel Mac Pros (Unexpected Quit on launch) So I guess it is possible that I didn’t trash the correct preferences. user/user name/library/preferences/final cut pro user data

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
    TIA

Nothing as FCP can only address 2.5GBs of RAM. Snore. Here’s to 64bits.

That just saved me a bit of cash!

Well, remember Kang, different programs can each use RAM. So if you ever run more than 1 program at a time, having more RAM still helps.

My reason for the original question was not to report that FCP only uses 2 GB of RAM. I know this isn’t true because that part of the users manual that shows you how to manage RAM and Caches show a screen shot of a system with 8GB of RAM.
I need to know exactly what preference to trash or what other steps I need to take to make FCP see the new RAM.

    Sorry, but it is true:

That document is talking about Tiger as the reason for the cap since it’s a 32-bit OS. Leopard has improved in that regard, but the situation hasn’t changed because Final Cut Pro is still a 32-bit applictaion. Both the OS and the applicaion must be 64-bit before this can change. It hasn’t happened yet.

Thanks, Jeff for posting that again as apparently it didn’t come through when I posted it.
