Final Cut Pro 6 and Lion
Posted by Dave Lasdon on September 4, 2011 at 10:45 pmI’m not a professional editor, so Final Cut Pro 6 has been very good to me. I never even installed all the studio CDs. Last week I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion. Well, Final Cut Pro 6 doesn’t work in Lion. Final Cut Pro 7 does. Is there any way I can upgrade from Final Cut Pro 6 to 7 by buying a download or an upgrade CD?

September 6, 2011 at 1:23 pmIt may be. It seems very confusing what I’m actually looking for. I’ve seen that for $600-$900. Then there’s this:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/final-cut-pro/id424389933?mt=12
That’s only $300.

September 6, 2011 at 1:26 pmYou’re right, there is that. That would be FCPX, Apple’s latest in the CFP line. If you are a professional, or looking to be pro. AVOID IT. Google why FCPX is NOT a professional editing system yet. Im sure plenty of here back up that point of view. FCP7 (the one i directed you to) is Apple’s last release of ‘professional’ editing software.

September 6, 2011 at 2:25 pmI’m no professional or looking to be one. I use it to play around with ideas to give to my editor and for personal video.

September 6, 2011 at 2:29 pmFor non professionals FCPX is probably perfect- its more of an ‘iMovie Pro’. Just as long as you don’t say to a professional editor ‘come and edit on my system, I have FCPX- because I know I for one would look at you funny 😀

October 10, 2011 at 1:29 amI am using FCP6 on a new iMac which has Lion OS. So far no problems, however the reason I Googled was to see if there were issues. In particular, during log and capture in which it takes to long to start after the now button is clicked.
Back to FCP6 and Lion, I did used Migration to transfer all that was perviously on my five year old MacPro.
