  • Final Cut Pro 5- backup and installing

    Hello world,

I’m using my own copy of Final Cut 5 HD on a clean IMac G4 800MHz 256MB RAM (hope it fits for a 13mins film…), where I’ll install it only to do a single editing.

Later, I’ll zap it from the machine after mastering the tape, so two questions arise:

    1. how to uninstall safely and completely the s/w? Maybe there’s some Apple ‘custom trick’ for FinalCut…
    2. how may I copy the original CDROMs to have a legal backup?
It wasn’t technically possible some time ago, so when my originals for FCPro 3 were stolen and I didn’t have a backup copy, I flamed!

    TIA:sem

To make legal back ups, insert one of your disks, open disk utility.
Select the disk you want to create an image from. You have to make an image to burn an image .or have two DVD drives hooked up.
Any way select the disk you are imaging in disk utility(on the left)
after selected click New image at the top of the disk util window. Then name it and set a destination. use compressed, and hit ok.

When it is done, it will take an hour tops, when done drag the image back into disk util at the bottom left, then select your new image and then hit the burn disc at the top of the window, I am not sure but I think some disks of the Final cut studio are dual layer discs, you may need to buy Dual layer disks and then burn, I usually make images and leave them on the HDD and then move it to a External, so then you just mount the image to the desktop instead of looking for discs to put in.
You can actually mount all your disc images and install the entire studio without ever putting in a disc!

Thank you, that’s really smart… anyway, your trick is also working on OS 10.2.8 Jaguar?
