  • Final Cut ‘laggy’ after being idle. Is this normal??

Posted by Rod Main on May 27, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Just getting into my Final Cut suite after 14 years of Avid. All going well but every time I leave it idle for a while and make a phone call/do email or such, Final Cut gives me the spinning beach-ball for 7 or 8 seconds before catching up with me.
Not the end of the world I know but a little irritating.
    Is this normal??
Dual 2.8 Ghz 4 Mb RAM, media running from internal 1Tb HD with separate 300 Gb boot drive. Only about 3-4 hours of media at ProRes at any given time and short-form timelines of only 3-4 minutes usually.
    Thanks in advance

    Rod,

Sounds like your Power Saver features in the System Preferences are not turned off. You need to set everything on “never.” And no sleeping on hard drives too.
