Final Cut Express – transitions

Hello. This is a helpful post, but why does FCE make it so complicated. In MSFT MovieMaker when you place an effect, it assumes you will use the video in the timeline and you adjust the ends of the effect to overlap the ends of the clips. I usually place more video in the timeline than I need to compensate for the effect. With FCE I guess I have to plan in advance and only place what I want to see and let FCE use the “extra” video in the clips that I cant see in the timeline for the effect, correct? Hard to explain.
