Error message for FCE4, The project is unreadable and may be too new for this version of FCE. The project I am trying to open is from a book on lessons on FCP 6 . The strange thing, I can open the other lessons without any problems.

I have been working on this problem all weekend, I have deleted the preferences , I re-did all permission thru disk utility, I have installed it in another imac 5 at work and same problem, I went as a different user and still the same problem. I am at my wits ends

Btw, I tried upgraded 3 or more time this weekend but there was no new upgrade for FCE4 . I noticed FCP, had an update to resolved this issue but I have not found any updated for Express.

Please help. It won’t be the end of the world if I don’t get this lesson but the book is progressive and feed off the previous lesson.

What’s your computer? Do you have the 4.0.1 update? Did you try creating a new user to open the file?

    All the best,

My mac is a G5, and I did try to open it with a different user.

Did you do the 4.0.1 update? Did you try copying a new copy of the project file from the disk onto your computer and opening that?

    All the best,

    Tom

[joseph torres] “The project is unreadable and may be too new for this version of FCE”

[joseph torres] “The project I am trying to open is from a book on lessons on FCP 6 “

Final Cut Express cannot open Final Cut Pro Project files.

actually, all the projects do work in final cut express except lesson 2, the author could have used a different set up for this project. But I have done lesson 1 and I opened other lessons and it work perfect except lesson 2.

Missed that. Zane is quite right. The projects should not open in FCE. Opening the projects will not help you anyway unless you have FCP installed as the media may not work.

BTW is there some reason you can’t answer the question I’ve asked twice already, namely DID YOU UPDATE TO FCE4.0.1?

BTW, what book are you talking about? It’s easier to help with complete information rather than guessing.

The book is the craft of editing by michael wohl.

A lot of the instruction in that book will not work in FCE, simply because instruction is based largely on step-by-steps using timecode. Timecode does not display in FCE. There are also other functions and tools that are used, whole chapters in fact, which simply have no relevance to FCE.

Hi. I’m having exactly the same error message trying to open a FCE4 (v4.0.1) project created on the same machine 2 days ago! Tried copying file etc still the same. Other projects created on the same day are opening fine. Anyone experienced this at all?
