Great information. Any ideas on how Final Cut Studio figures into this whole compatibility conundrum?

    Howdy!
I don’t usually butt in on post’s with a similar question, but I think I will this time, since it’s so similar.
I have FCS 3, and my editing buddy had FCE 4. There’s no problem in opening a project file made in FCE in FCS, the problem, and I had expected, comes when I he tries to open my FCP project in FCE. Is there any converter, or droplet, or something else that I could do to make it work?
    Thanks!!

    Hi there
I had a similar issue with bring FCP files back into FCE. After fiddling around a bit I found that the solution lies in Exporting an XML file from FCP. What you need to do is, while in FCP click on FILE–EXPORT–XML
Then from the format pull down, select the version # that is compatible with your version of FCE. I found the “Apple XML Interchange Format, version 4” works with FCE v4.0.1. Then in FCE Import the XML file by FILE–IMPORT–FCP XML From Imovie.

An issue worth noting is that FCP seems to only export individual sequences at a time not entire projects. So if you have more then one sequence in a project that you would like to import into FCE you’ll have to export them as XMLs one at a time.

    Hope this helps

    Howdy
    Ok, I’ve got another problem.
In FCE, when I try to open a .xml file that I exported from FCP, it give an error message saying:
: Unable to create sequence “Home Beginning” as it has unsupported Sequence Properties (Line 4)
    : Unable to create new .( line 4 )
    : Unable to create new .( line 4 )
I exported the XML as a type 4 doc. Do you have any idea why it’s not working? I tried it in other XML types, and then it asked for a translation document.
    Thanks!

    Dear Mr. Wolsky,
I followed this thread to find you.
I’ve got a 1.1MB FCE (version 4.01) file that needs to be imported into FCP (6.04 or later) and then exported as an XML file. (I need to move this project to Premiere for an update.) I would have posted this as a question to the forum (but I didn’t know how.) You seem to know all about this. Can you help?

    Hello
I have edited a video in FCE HD 3.5.1 (Mac) and I want to export it to Premier Pro 5.5 (PC) in order to tweak it. Is this possible?

Any tips on the best way to export the video (on FCE) for web viewing to something other than Quick Time whilst keeping the quality good and the size small?

Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
