final cut express and hmc 150
Posted by Bradley Morales on April 3, 2009 at 5:31 pmI am about to buy the Panasonic ag hmc 150. has anyone had success editing AVCHD clips from this camera on final cut express? I do not need all the capabilities of FCP and can not afford it anyway. My mac book pro has 512 MB of Ram. Can I use it? I can possibly get hold of a macbook air with 2G of ram.

April 4, 2009 at 12:07 amFCE does not support 24p so you’d be stuck with the 60i modes. To fully use the 150 you would need Final Cut Pro.

April 4, 2009 at 4:56 pmaccording to apple the RAM requirements are 2G, but 4G for uncompressed. My computer has 2G. Will I be able to upload, edit and offload with the Macbook Air configured as such? Will a superdrive be able to burn the work on to a DVD to play on a non HD player? Thanks for confirming my suspicions about FCE.

April 4, 2009 at 11:10 pmThere is no ‘uncompressed’ with the 150- it is compressed in the camera so you would gain absolutely nothing by transcoding AVCHD to uncompressed.

April 6, 2009 at 10:27 pmIs FCP studio2 (FCP 6) enough to work with the HMC 150, or do I need an update from there?
Also can you export a clip as a Jpeg for say a publicity shot? -

April 6, 2009 at 10:57 pm6.04 is required- that’s a free update from 6.0. Sure you can export a still- it’s 1920×1080 though- not exactly high res for stills.
