  • Final Cut does not read last frame of Quicktime movie.

I have problem with FCP4.5 runnig on a g5. i have a lot of Quicktime files rendered out into the Blackmagic Quicktime Codec. When I import the files into FCP for editing, and ouput. The very last frame seems to be missing. I know it is in the file because when I open it in Quicktime I can see the last frame. Also FCP reads the file as being one frame shorter than it is.

Does anyone know why this is or if there is a way to make FCP read that last frame?

I’d hate to have to export it from After Effects again.

    thanks

Sounds like you movies may be at 30 fps, not 29.97. This is typical with Cinema4d renders at 30fps. If you movie looks fine in the View but in sequence the last frame is black: 30/29.97 issue.

We are working in HD and our frame rate is 23.976. We checked the After Effects output and it is running at this rate. not 24fps. The 29.97fps is a bug that occurs when we try to fix the problem in Quicktime.
    Thanks for your thoughts

    Hi Grant,

I work in PAL 24p film projects quite a lot and recently discovered that every clip which I had used the ‘Conform 25 to 24’ tool on, would end up one frame shorter after the conversion.

The work around was to Unlink the clip (make offline but keep media) and then Reconnect – the full length clip would then appear in FCP. This has always worked for me. I have not tried it with 23.976 media, but its worth a try.

A while ago, I submitted this as a bug through the developer connection and it has had its status changed to ‘Closed’ which hopefully means they fixed this in FCP 5. Time will tell.

    Hope this works for you.

    Mark
