  • Final Cut and QuickTime not running after OS updates

I’ve been running FInal Cut HD 4.5 and QuickTime on a G5 fine for several months, but after an automatic update to OS 10.3.9 and a Quicktime update to 7.0.3, neither application will open successfully. There are no error messages, QuickTime appears as open in the dock but never actually opens and FInal Cut’s intro screen begins “thinking” indefinitely on “loading audio filters.” I’ve tried trashing both applications and reinstalling, but both simply do an “upgrade” instead of a reinstall (like I haven’t completely uninstalled the applications). I can’t find any Final Cut audio prefs, or many prefs in general, that may be causing problems. I tried logging in as a root user on the computer and repairing permssions, still no luck. Both problems began at the same time, are they related? And is there a way to totally uninstall FInal Cut Pro? I’m pretty sure it’s not a memory issue, but who knows.

Check in the folder System/Application Support if you have any residual files when you have tried to delete the application and re-install it. Unfortunatelly, I am using Tiger and upgrading didn’t do a glitch… I may supposed that it’s related to Panther version… but they say on their web site that the minimum requirement is 10.3.9 so perhaps I’m wrong…

    Have a nice editing!

Around the third install attempt, I checked there and found nothing. I have now noticed that iTunes also does not open. Since these are all Apple products, could it be some kind of audio preference or file that they all use? The strange part is that Soundtrack and LiveType open fine. I’m not very familiar with this software (its a school computer), but I think these are all related and may use some of the same filters, etc.?

GO BACK to 6.5.1 or 2 and OS X.3.4. I was in FCP 4.5, upgraded to os 10.3.9, all was ok till I went up to QT 7 pro (bought it because pro capability in 6.5 disappeared after going to Os 10.3.9) HORRIBLE problems for a month (stuff seeming to work then going haywire in timelines). Strip out with patch from apple site didnt work, we did a reinstall of oS 10.3.4 and QT 6.5 and FCP 4.5. Sorry cant give details, as someone helped me do it I just chomped fingernails.
