  • Final Cut 7 – favourite effects gone

    Hello,

one of our Macs has been upgraded to Final Cut 7. All the favourite effects have vanished.

We still have them on another machine that is still running FCP6. How do I transfer these effects favourites, particularly Motion, to FCP7?

    Cheers,

If you get Preference Manager from https://www.digitalrebellion.com copying saved preferences from machine to machine is just one of the many things you can do with the app. It’s free BTW, so it’s not exactly gonna cost you a fortune.

Because your favorites folder in the Effects tab will always be emptied when trashing prefs (or upgrading) (yes it is un the manual), You could create an Effect’s Project that will contain just those.

Drag your favorites Folder into the browser of that project and save it.

And back it up somewhere else.

And DO get Pref Manager as said before.

    Hope this helps,

Just for the record, Preference Manager can only restore preferences for the current major version of Final Cut Pro. You can’t transfer version 6 prefs over to version 7 – FCP will just ignore them (this is not an issue with the other apps in the suite btw).

    My software:
FCS Maintenance Pack – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
FCP Versioner – Backs up Final Cut Pro projects to XML and creates changelists for each revision
    More tools…
