Hello all me again 🙂 this time its a bigger question. Now I’ve never had this problem in FCP before but its becoming more and more frequent. I have a clip in the timeline (I work with Apple Prores files and the seq. settings are Apple Proress as well) and when i play back, the canvas window audio and picture are off completely off sync but when I stop the play head the canvas window jumps the correct place. I don’t know what this is and so far the only way to fix it is to force the video in the time to render once then its fine but half the time it doesn’t need rendering so I’m forced to apply an effect take it off then render and its just acting funny all together Qt not syncing when i export to prores seq settings not working while some do. this is getting rather annoying.. any of you guys have this problem? Should do a clean install for FCP?

    Hi Greg

That would seem to be a drastic first step … although ultimately it may be necessary, I’d nonetheless try some other less extreme things first. Trashing your preferences (or restoring a from a known good set of preferences) is always worth a shot when FCP starts acting strangely. Corrupt preferences have been known to present themselves in all manner of quirky and otherwise inexplicable behavior. There is a very good (and free) helper app from Digital Rebellion, called Preference Manager, that can make this a simple task. Another thing to try is to create yourself a new OS X user account on your Mac, then log in to that new account and try running FCP again … does it still display the same behavior?

    Best

It certainly could be Greg, such an install method might be supported but its far from recommended. Your very best bet for a good clean working edit station is a full clean install of the OS followed by all current OS updates, then a full clean install of FCS, again followed by all current updates. For an extra safety net you might want to repair permissions after every step along the way too!
