Final Cut 6 Insert edit issue
Hello all,
I’m having an issue when trying to perform an insert onto the Panasonic 1700 deck. The initial punch in is dead on with the TC, the issue lies with the out point. The deck seems to continue to record after the marked out point for an additional 4 or 5 seconds, and for that 4 or 5 second duration it lays back black on the video.
I am setting the in and out on my timeline, and matching Just the “in” point on the edit to tape tool. I have tried several different machine templates, and have had no success, every insert edit results in 4 or 5 seconds of black being laid down after the marked out TC point.
I am working in 720p 59,94 and outputting via a Kona2 card (with latest updates) and I am using Final Cut 6.01.
Any ideas?

Do your settings behind the edit to tape window have black after the edit?

Is that really an issue?
For everything I do I could care less if it post rolls a few seconds.

Of course its an issue. Its recording BLACK during those extra 4 or 5 seconds during an INSET, so any video there is being replaced by black frames, overwriting with black video I have not included in my mark points. Plus its not a post roll issue, I have tried different machine templates, and one of the first things I did was set the post roll to “1.”
Thank you for the replies though. Tom, good call on checking the settings, after my current output is done I am going to check that out.

I bet you have a 5 second trailer checked in the mastering settings tab of the edit to tape window. Make sure you have print in to out selected as well (instead of entire media).

DUDE!!! Thank you guys so much. I am not at the office so I can’t try it, but I just called my boss and let him know about the setting. I am guilty of not even looking through the settings, I was so caught up thinking something else was the culprit. I am going to check it out first thing monday morning, and see if this is the resolution

I’ve done this at least 3 or 4 times myself this year.
my co-workers hear a very loud “DOH” coming out of the edit suite when it happens. 🙂

The edit to tape interface does need a little cosmetic update, that is for dern sure.
