Is there a way, within a clip either to create a zoom or to go to a closer shot within the clip by some sort of effect within FCP? (Not by shooting another clip of a zoom or close shot.) Or by using some other program. (I also have After Effects 6) + Director, (although I have yet to use either of them).

Open the clip in the viewer and use the motion tab (basic motion: scale and position, even rotation…). Keyframing available.
