  • Filters to use to retain viewable image when there’s harsh very bright light from a welder

I am shooting an industrial video. It will contain some sequences that involve an industrial welder that produces extremely bright lights from the flame. What filters for the DVX-100 could I use to retain a viewable image around the flame area. I’ve included two links below that have pictures. The first is not what I want, see how you can’t view anything around the lighted flame area. How do I produce an image like the one in the second link?

    any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

It’s not really a filter issue but an exposure issue. The light around the flame is much brighter than the surrounding ambient light. So if you want to retain more of that very bright light you need to first close down your iris more and also bring in a heavy fill light to balance out the exposure.

    hey noah,

thanks for the reply. any suggestions as to what wattage light I would need? I’m thinking I would need a lot of light because the flame is pretty bright.
