Film Glow
Posted by Ken Adolph on January 21, 2006 at 11:43 pmOne of my favourite plug-ins I have used for years in SpeedRazor and in PremierePro 1.5 is FilmFX from BigFX.
They haven’t been returning emails or phone calls for a long time so I am assuming they are out of business even though their website still works.
This hasn’t been a huge problem until now but I just installed Premiere2 on my system and then FilmFX. FilmFX killed Premiere. I had to uninstall and reinstall Premiere.
Does anyone know of a good film look plugin for Premiere. I am mostly interested in the “film glow” part of it at the moment.
ThanksKen Adolph

January 22, 2006 at 6:39 pmDigital Film Tools has an excellent plug-in called 55mm. I does glows and a whole lot more and works well in PPro 2 – highly recommended. https://www.digitalfilmtools.com/55mm/

this is just what I am looking for.
I notice that there is no plug-in listed for PPro2
Is it the After Effects one that you have used?Ken Adolph

January 22, 2006 at 8:52 pmYes. You can load it for both AE and PPro. You’re really gonna like all the features it has.

January 22, 2006 at 10:29 pmThanks Lance,
I downloaded the trial of 55mm & Digital Film Lab and they are awesome.
I just placed my order for the bundle including both plug-ins.
This is one of the best filter packages I have ever seen.Ken Adolph

January 23, 2006 at 7:53 amYeah I also have Digital Film Lab and highly recommend it. It takes a different approach than 55mm and gives you every possible control over every aspect of the picture vs. 55mm’s presets (which of course are completely customizable).

January 24, 2006 at 4:51 amSapphire has a film-look plugin which works with Premiere Pro 1.51, (don’t know about PP 2.0) and AE/Combustion.
It’s nice, and very fast. Has a nice glow.
It’s probably not as nice as the aforementioned, but it’s good for quick jobs. Sapphire also has many other plug-ins, some I find indispensable. (Edge Rays, matte tools, et al.)

January 24, 2006 at 8:04 amYes they are great plugins and work well in PPro2, but they render INCREDIBLY slowly. The exact opposite of Magic Bullet.

January 24, 2006 at 8:59 amSapphire works great in 2.0 and you can watch them in near realtime (depending on your system) after applying the effect. They are available in 4 modules – the only reason I didn’t mentio them is they cost far more than 55mm and you need the entire collection to surpass 55mm in features. The Sapphire FilmEffect is also outstanding (part of Box 2 – Stylize).

January 24, 2006 at 9:00 amThey do render very slow and even slower if you check the force 16 bit rendering option – but worth the wait.
