    Good morning,

I am looking for help getting the film effect used in the Californication intro:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVa1RXyUyxw&sns=em

It is also used in this wedding video in a way that I find appealing:

    https://vimeo.com/34074998

I’ve been able to figure out that I’ll need to put a mask on the clips that I want to have this look and maybe kick up some film grain. Then maybe buy some kind of plug-in that adds film burn (suggestions?).

Making short films of weekends with friends/family is something I do purely as a hobby. I’m just looking for ways to make my videos a little more interesting with the editing. I don’t have lots of money to throw around at plug-ins so if anyone has ideas for relatively inexpensive ways of creating this look I’d really appreciate it. I am new to FCPX, having stepped up from iMovie, and I’m having lots of fun learning new things. It’s powerful software and I know I haven’t even scratched the surface.

    If this is relevant information:
    Shooting with Canon 60D
Editing with Final Cut Pro X

Thank you so much for any help you can provide. This is such a knowledgable community.

They are known as light leaks.

or Artbeats has some as well.

Light Leaks are the new Lens Flares.

Awesome! I would’ve thought that’d be more expensive.

Is there any rule to stick by on the size of the mask I put over the clip? I assume that that look comes from an old-timey camera that had certain dimensions.
