  • Fill layer with layer

    Hi there,

I want to to do a fairly simple thing, but can’t seem to find the right solution.

I want to give 20 layers in my composition a fill of another layer.
Sort of the “texturize” effect, but without the lighting options.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks a lot!

I don’t want to Luma/Alpha matte every layer, because I need to do a ton of them 😉

Place the Fill layer at the top of your Timeline layer stack and switch on its Preserve Underlying Transparency switch – it’s the T switch in the Modes section of the Timeline.

Wow! I’ve never used this feature before! This is great. Thanks Roland.

It’s quite useful for other uses well since the top layer only appears when there are non-transparent pixels on underlying layers.

    Cheers

    Hi Roland,

Thanks! Great function, but it does not quite what I’m looking for.

I want to texture to be on the layer itself. So when I rotate and position the layer, the texture should stick to it.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like you need to parent the texture to the layer. Since there is more than one layer with the alpha channel, you can’t use the method I proposed. I suggest that you look into using a regular Track Matte or the Set Matte effect, together with a parenting structure.
