Fill behind slide without matte track
I’ve posted this one before, but without concrete answers, so I’ll try a different explanation.
Crossfading between speaker footage and powerpoint slides, it’s as simple as it gets. I captured the slides, and I had to scale them down to fall in the safe areas, that leaves me with transparency around showing the video under. The problem with adding a matte under is the overlapping issue you get when dissolving the matte and a slide at the same time.
My only way around that is the nest the two tracks and then apply the dissolves. I’m not doing that 200 hundred times x 25 presentations 😉I could I guess put the slides “below” the video, but that’s not a great workflow either.
What I’m after is a way to fill the gap around the slide with an effect. Any takers ?

Perhaps it would be easier to resize and “matte” the images using PhotoShop. This process could easily be automated using PhotoShop actions and batch processing. Once you define the actions to be performed, whole folders of images can be modified very easily.
You will need to figure out what size safe area you want to use and resize the images to that dimension. Then use the Canvas Size function to add a border that fills the image to the raster size you are using, e.g. 720×480.
