    HI,

I have been given 90 gigs of files captured on a FCP 6 suite,
and I only have the final cut express HD on my laptop

as I normally edit with Premiere pro

my laptop does not see the video only the audio, and tells me i dont have the correct coded to play the file,

any idea what codec FCP6 uses ?
as far as i know there are 16:9 Pal 50i footage

    regards
    mark

Open the file in the Quicktime player and see exactly what it says and report back. Most likely the material was captured using a codec that’s not available in FCE.

    All the best,

[Mark Bowes] “I have been given 90 gigs of files captured on a FCP 6 suite,

FCE is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY limited in the formats that it can edit.

Like Tom said check what codec they are using via quick time.

[Mark Bowes] “any idea what codec FCP6 uses ? “

There are a lot of them.

I know your not going to like this but you are ether going to need to get FCP or you will have to have the video ether recaptured are converted into one of the 2 codecs that FCE can use. DV or Apple Intermediate codec.
