Files Disappeared fro bin
Hi All, I was launching Fcp5 on my PowerBook g4 last night, and I forgot to turn my external drive on. So the project that I was working on disappeared from the bin. I tried to reconnect, but it said that I had not saved the project. I constantly save all, because I\’m always afraid of something just like this happening. Can anyone help me get my files back in my bin?

When ever you start FCP and it cannot locate your scratch disks on the first try, it will always open to a new project and not your current project(s) being worked on. Even if you re-connect the scratch disks.
So did you actually open your project? or did you just expect it to be there and see nothing?
OR
Did you indeed re-open your project by going to FIle>Open and get an empty bin?

Yes, I turned the external drive on and tried to open up the project. Empty bin.

How odd… Go to your auto-save vault and see if the last saved version is there.

Can’t find any autosave vault. Have had to go to find capture scratch files, but doesn’t appear to be the entire collection of lost files. Strange, but each file from capture scratch has to be entered individually instead of being batch entered,can’t get multiple files to enter the bin, only one at a time. All my folders are gone, and many of the descriptions entered while logging are shortened or lost. This sucks bug time. My entire file is now altered fir the worse. Anyone?.

Seems to be a lag in my replies. Thanks Christina, you gave some very good advice and helped me save my project.

If you go to set your scratch disks… you’ll see your autosave vault location. (If you havent changed it its’ probably in your home folder >Documents. Thats where your auto saved files are. they are basically back-ups of your projects.
But you might try deleting your Final CUt Pro preferences and restart FCP.
