files are green
Posted by Mike Sullivan on October 3, 2007 at 12:50 pmI just installed CS3 and now when I import video files sometimes they come in as a blank green frame. Has anyone else seen that?

October 3, 2007 at 1:51 pmWhat is the codec of the video files?
Can you play the files in another player, such as Quicktime?
Can you try some other files and see if they import?
Can you find a pattern to this behaviour?
What is your OS? -

October 3, 2007 at 2:55 pmThese are reference avi’s and QT’s from Avid Nitris/DS. They see the media that the DS sees using the DS codec. I’ve never had a problem with AE seeing them before I upgraded.

October 3, 2007 at 2:56 pmHere’s an article on AVI codecs. It may be old (2003), but then again, so is the AVI format:

October 3, 2007 at 3:04 pmare avid and ae on the same machine? and is the media that is being referenced on a local drive?
it may be that your avi is referencing media that is not available to ae… or maybe there is a bug with cs3 and some reference files.

October 3, 2007 at 3:27 pmDid you upgrade QT as part of the upgrade process? Maybe there’s a bug there.

October 3, 2007 at 3:45 pmactually, if the problem is only avi reference files it may be an issue with a windows component or media player… it’s interesting that it is only some reference files…
is there any difference in the referenced media or project timelines of working reference files versus non-working refernce files?

October 5, 2007 at 6:59 pmI just saw this on the AVID DS forum, seems like there was a
bug in the package. https://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/279725/ShowThread.aspx#279725
