  • FileMaker to Avid metadata?

    Hi there,

Has anyone ever had success with entering data from FileMaker Pro to Avid? It is an archival documentary and I am taking metadata from the FileMaker listings and logging it into Avid. is there some method of export and import that works with Avid MC version 8.8.2.45735?

    Thanks!

You need to export a TAB delimited file, then edit the header to look like an ALE and add sections Column and Data. As long as the field names match those expected by Media Composer, you should be good. That means exact spelling and observing uppercase/lowercase.

Thank you very much, Michael! I’ll take a stab at it today.

Here is the most recent, available Avid whitepaper on Avid Metadata logging and management that has a section on ALE file creation. Unfortunately it does not describe any of the new metadata fields from 7.0.3 and later, but may be good enough for what you need to do:

Also, I have a series of blogs on ALE, and things to watch out for if you peruse:
