I am using Sony Vegas Studio 6.0 and DVD Arch. Studio 3.0.

It seems that all of a sudden my file size is much larger than before, after rendering into MPEG-2. I have 124 minutes of video, and in the past this fit nicely on a single 4.7GB single layer DVD disk. But after importing to DVD Arch. Studio 3.0, it says that it is 7.6GB.

    My settings for rendering are:
    Format: Main Concept MPEG-2
    Template: DVD NTSC
Description: Audio 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
    Video: 29.97 FPS, 720×480

Perhaps there is a setting I am not aware of that is increasing the file size? Or perhaps the setting that needs to be changed is in the DVD Arch program?

As a side note, the dual layer disk buring capability of the 6.0 version (over the 4.0) is great, just make sure that the intended audiance has a machine that will play dual layer format.

    Thanks in advance,

    rodent

Note that most “normal” DVD’s one would buy with movies on them are dual layer. IOW, all DVD players handle dual layer.

Since you’re on the “movie studio” version, you can’t control the bitrate of the MPEG2 encoding so you can’t make it smaller. However, you CAN render to DV-AVI and give that to DVD Architect Movie Studio which will then render to MPEG2 of a proper size to fit on the disc.
