  • File size of rendered video…

Posted by Ram Peters on January 5, 2012 at 6:16 pm

I own Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD platinum 10.0. I recently took a few video clips with my HD video camera. I edited the video a bit with 3 different clips. All 3 clips are less than 100MB in size, and my rendered video is 75 seconds long. My question: why is the rendered file size 7.1 GB?

Additional info when I render the video here is what is in the description:

HD 1080-24p, using Sony YUV codec. OpenDML compatible.
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM
Video: 23.976 fps, 1920×1080 Progressive, YUV

I would like to keep my rendered video clips in HD, and I am able to adjust the template but the video size is still over 5 GB… Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Your file size is 7 gigs because of the codec you rendered it out to. What is the destination for your rendered file, how will it be used? That should determine what codec you render it out in. Is it going to be burned on a blu-ray? Do you just need a file you can view on a computer? If the video is 1080@24p and you just want to view it on a computer, you may want to try an h264 format.

I simply want the video to be viewed on a computer. How do I get it to h264 format?

You can use the Sony AVC setting, and choose a template that matches your project settings of 1080p 24fps.
