File sharing clarification
Hello again! I am having a concern with sharing files via CatDV. I was curious as to what people have set up or if they could verify how CatDV file transfer workflows must be set up?
Our current workflow is this:
-I have access to a drive on a server that contains all the media.
-I use CatDV to ingest and add metadata to the clips in various catalogs
-I use worker node to populate proxies in a “proxy” created folder on the drive on the server (next to all my media)Now lets say I create a user (other than myself) that is able to log in to web client and view the files in their catalog. When they find a clip they want to get a higher res (or “presentation file” quality) they use a drop down User Field to mark the clip as “Presentation file requested”.
I additionally set up a trigger in the worker node to create the higher res file (presentation file), but this is where we are stuck and need clarification:
Do we need a ftp server/site in order to deliver the link to the user?
It is to our understanding that we didn’t need to maintain a ftp server and users using web client?
Bryson Jones had done a fantastic job helping me with the regex and workflow procedure in the worker node of what metadata/user fields should be used, I am just looking for clarification on if/how we can share our media without using an ftp?

I don’t really have much to add here. (we haven’t done this much since we wrote a whole app to do this “our way”.) I will say that I know you can download files from the web client but remember that separate from “CatDV world” you really don’t want to do an http transfer for files larger than a couple of gigabytes as the protocol itself isn’t that stable.
That’s why ftp and other protocols exist, they are made to transfer larger files. Downloading proxy and images is probably fine via http. But something like a 200GB file might not be suitable for an http download.
Does anyone have anything to add on this topic?

Quick note here.
Dougal, Alex is looking to create download links, not upload to an FTP share. The FTP will be local to his CatDV rig, I believe.
Alex, it might be good to get some pro services for this one. It’s pretty deep and far beyond the standard documented workflows.

Thank you everyone for your response! The team and I are working on the next steps we have with CatDV (having a bit of technical issues with ghost files and server complications), they are being worked out and as soon as that is done we are going to decide what to do from there.
