    Hi Guys!

Glad to be a part of the online community here.
I wanted to know if anyone could give me advice on this, and I apologize if this question has already been asked previously.

Basically I am about to go editing a large project with hundreds of video files; single video files on their own and in folders.

Should I begin by reviewing and naming every file Outside of Vegas and then begin my project, or should I do it from the inside out.

Also all my XDCAM clips are in individual folders; how can I grab them all and extract them to one folder rather than have to pull and drag every one of them to a location.

    Any other advice?!

Im new to Sony Vegas, switched from FCP and there is no goin back now!

    Neil

You can do it either way. Vegas Pro allows you to rename them after they are in the project media pool but some people like to rename them before they start. It’s really a personal choice as it’s about the same work either way so it depends of what you are comfortable with.

You should use the View | XDCAM Explorer (Ctrl+Alt+5) to manage your XDCAM footage.

I like to copy all of my media under one project folder. This way I only have one folder to backup and archive when I’m done. I also like to save my project under different names at various parts of editing (e.g., rough cut, finish editing, before grading, etc.) so that I can go back if something catastrophic happens.

We do have a rather friendly group of editors who are always willing to help each other out. Glad to be adding one more. 🙂
