I want to send a shoot master to a friend for editing into his 1080i project. My shoot master is Sony’s XDCAM-EX 1080p PAL. I run Premiere CS3 on a PC and Final Cut Pro on a Mac (depending on my mood).

What file format would I send to the Vegas 8 user?

Vegas is capable of rendering any number of different file formats. I would think that your best course of action would be to ask your friend what format he/she is most comfortable editing with. Chances are Vegas can output that format easily.

Thanks jim, but I need to know what file format to deliver to him from FCP or Premiere. He’s undecided what format he’ll output to – SD or HD – but he wants to edit 1080i and I need to know what to deliver to him so that Vegas can import the file into the Vegas’s timeline.

Ok so he wants to edit in 1080i so you now have the choice of providing him with either an m2t or m2v format and Vegas will be able to accomodate him. FCP should be able to output either of those formats.
