I’m having problems finding the right kind of file format for my video on the internet. I’m interning at a company where they wanted a “how to” video put on their website, but their server can’t handle a video directly on it, so they want me to create a link to the video on the internet.

They originally wanted me to post my video on Youtube and just put the link on their website for people to view it, but i’m not sure if I want to do that for them.

I’ve edited my project in PP2, it was shot on a canon HDV camera with 16:9 aspect ratio. Putting it on Youtube is going to make the quality horrible and I can’t find a good file format to convert it to that doesnt make it look even worse!

I’ve converted it to a quicktime video, but youtube’s having a hard time uploading that, too. Does anyone know of any other website that I could upload my video on and what file format should I convert my PP2 video to so that it doesn’t look as horrible on the internet?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

Aharon Rabinowitz gives a great introductory tutorial here https://cowcast.creativecow.net/after_effects/episodes/Compression_Pt_1_POD.mp4
    I found it very useful

Most all free sites like You Tube recompress what ever is uploaded to them, degrading the video noticeably.
Why cant your server handle the video? Any HTTP server configured with MIME settings for Windows Media Video can do progressive download, providing your movie is not too long (over 15 minutes.
Windows Media Video 9 is your best bet for format.

I guess it’s not our server that can’t handle it, but that we don’t have a larger enough bandwidth, we only have a T1…

That video helped, but as soon as he was going to show what settings to use to compress your video, the video ended. Can anyone help me figure out how I should compress my video for the internet? Like i said before, it was shot on a canon HDV 1080i with 16:9 aspect ratio and edited in PP 2.0.

I’m don’t know much about uploading videos online or about video compression, so i appreciate all the help i can get.

    Thanks,
    Jenny

You’re liable to get all the help you need from Aharon’s complete DVD at an introductory price through the end of the month I think:
