When I export a clip to quicktime or compressor I sometimes get a “File Error: A file of this name already exists.” Sounds simple enough, but I know for a fact that there is no other file with that name. This happens very often (maybe half the time I export a clip) Usually if I close FCP and re-open it, it works fine. Just a pain to have to close and re-open so often.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

    Using a Mac G5 OS X version10.3.7 Dual 2.5GHz
    FCP HD 4.5

    Thanks,

    Andy

Trash your FCP preference files and see if that helps. Here’s a link on where to find them on your hard drive and how to trash them properly:

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

You can also download a free program that will trash FCP prefs automatically and install a fresh set. Do a Google search for “FCP Rescue”.
