FCP 5.0.4 on OS 10.4.4 on a Quad G5 with 2.5 Gb RAM:

I see others have had this problem with no resolution, going back to 2004. I’m hoping someone has overcome it.

When I go to save a project, FCP does appear to save a project, but then also gives me the error message “File Error: Access Denied.”

History: This only started after I created another user so that other people could work on projects in the system. I had been keeping all of the FCP projects in a folder in the Shared User folder. But one of the other users ran into this when he tried to save and quit FCP. So I figured it was a matter of permissions. I made sure that EVERYONE had read/write permissions to all the FCP projects. Still got the error.

Finally, I moved the FCP projects folder out of the Shared User to the root level, so the system “owns” it. Still got the error. I did the usual brushing and flossing (repaired permissions, trashed prefs, ran MacJanitor). When that didn’t work, I gave up and deleted the app and supporting files and re-installed FCP and re-updated to v 5.0.4. I still get that error! I am at my wit’s end. The projects are actually being saved, but this error message can’t be a good thing. Anyone have an idea what’s going on? TIA.

    Peace,
    Liane

I get the same thing. Well sharing a project is more complicated. I still have a version of the project in the shared folder, but everyone has to save their changes in their user first, then copy that to the shared folder. Overwrite the file in the shared and so on with each user. This is more of an OSX question. But this has been my work around.

    Hope this helps-
