File Error: Access Denied
Posted by Joey Williams on July 28, 2009 at 1:39 pmI just got a new MacPro, and transferred my old drive in my old MacBook Pro over to the new drive in the MacPro. I have FCS installed on the machine that I transferred, and I am trying to use it on my new machine. It seems to operate just fine with one exception (so far, anyway): whenever I try to render a file, I receive the error: File Error: Access Denied.
Any ideas/suggestions.
I’m going to try and attach a screenshot.

July 28, 2009 at 1:48 pmSo you just used the Mac OS software to transfer everything, you didn’t install everything clean from the original software discs on the new Mac Pro? If not, that’s a major issue, you should always install your software, especially the ProApps, clean from original software and not migrate them from one computer to another.

July 28, 2009 at 1:51 pmYeah, I just used the software to transfer everything.
Now that I have already done it, should I uninstall FCS on the new machine and reload, or can I just install over the top of the old?
Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

July 28, 2009 at 4:59 pmI would wipe everything clean and start again personally. Especially since it’s all brand new.

Thanks for your help everyone. I’m wiping and reinstalling everything. Gets too complicated any other way.

The Mac installers are hardware based: Depending of your computer some or other elements will be installed.
Your Mac Pro needs many things (Drivers, applications, extension,..) that are not inside of your Mac Book Pro System.

October 13, 2010 at 3:34 pmHi,
I actually did do an clean install of all the pro apps. But it’s weird I am getting that message on a specific timeline. The scratch media of that project is on an separate internal HD and the projects files are on the MACHD (system). I changed the permissions on a bunch of files but no change.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, did a clean install of everything.
I noticed that ALL permissions on folders and files are set to unknown.
Is there a way to change all of them without going into each one? Thanks
Paolo
