Hi! I’m trying to simulate some “magical” fighting in AE, and any suggestions on how to do the following would be greatly appreciated.

When a character hits another character, I would like a bit of light in the shape of say, the knee hitting the other person and a tiny shockwave eminating from it, to appear. It should only really last 1 1/2 seconds, so nice and quick.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I’m not the best at AE so if you could give me a simple idea of how to accomlish this I’d be most grateful! Thanks for your time.

    I have two suggestions:
If you can draw well, draw some shapes of the light in photoshop, and import them into AE.you can get what you want by adjusting the transform mode or appling some effects onto them.
Some plugin sepecially some particle sys plugin would probably be required.
you can try travling the web site http://www.trapcode.com
    their productions maybe helpful.

My name is always misread as COW……..:)

    Hey,

You could adding a solid black layer on top of your fight layer, add a radio waves effect on it, apply somethinge like glow or shine to it, and animate the radio waves to expand from the source of physical contact outwards. Add some time remap and hold the point of contact for a few frames for added effect.

Did this once to highlight some football players getting tackled and the client REALLY liked it, will be happy to post a small clip of it if you’re interested.

    Take care,

    Nick
