  • Fielding problems with DVCPRO HD & NTSC 601

the project I am working on contains both DVCPRO HD and NTSC 601 footage which have different fielding priorities. DVCPRO HD is upper and NTSC 601 is lower. My final product is a Beta Cam station dub and I was wondering the best way to avoid fielding issues. Can I change NTSC 601 footage to upper and deliver an upper field station dub, or will that cause problems?
    thanks for your time

You need to either use Compressor 3 or Graeme Nattress’ Standards Converter.

This is the second time you’ve asked this question and the answer is still the same! This is not a standards conversion problem, I’m sure Graeme would appreciate it if you purchased his converter but you don’t need it.

    From your previous post:

There’s a field switching filter that will change the order of the fields without having to recapture.

I believe that in FCP 5.1.4 (and FCP6) if you place SD footage in an HD timeline it will add the filter automatically and the opposite is true for HD in an SD timeline.

Go to Effects >> Video Filters >> Video >> Shift Fields.

This will not necessarily work correctly. You can try it, but it will not necessarily be a clean look especially with fast camera movement or fast action within the frame.

Sorry for the repost and thank you both for the advice. I will try to shift the fields and see how well that works.
