    Hello everybody,

i have tested Davinci now extensive, but there are beside the good things are some bad things:

The problem is when you have a projekt with mixed Material.
e.g.: I have RED, XDCAM and DigiBeta footage.

    First the field problem:
Rendering Fields with DaVinci is very bad, so scaling HD interlaced to SD interlaced is not quite as good as in FinalCut.
Another Problem is fields with the DigiBeta footage. Even without scaling (SD to SD)i cant turn on fields on the config page because the footage becomes bad. Some bad anti-Aliasing effects, you can see it on the Picture. The only way to get a good result is to turn of field rendering, but then i cant to any scaling.
    Straight lines looks stepped:

    with field rendering turned on

    with field rendering turned off

(Show fields on Config Page not checked, so i can see both fields!)

Another Problem is XDCAM EX Footage:
Since Version 7.1 Davinci should read this format, but it becomes very slowly when i use this format. So i have do convert it first to ProRes 422(HQ)1080 and DaVinci is fast again.

A great disadvantage is the conform thing. With FCP i only MUST use EDL (a very outdated format). So i have to copy all my footage to one folder, so DaVinci recognise it. That is not very handy and since all footage is on different locations it is very time consuming.
DaVinci should just read an XML where the full Path to the file is Stored, then i dont have to do the copy thing.

If i render the Timeline to uncompressed YUV 10bit and import it into FCP, then FCP crashes. Other formats work.

Ok, thats it for the moment.
Maybe someone has a good solution for 1 or more Problems.
    Sorry for my bad englisch.

I don’t deal with interlaced stuff so I can’t comment on that, but as far as paths go, it was my impression that DaVinci doesn’t care where your footage is as long as it’s added to the media pool.

Hi, it looks like you have used the enable video field processing correctly for the source clips that are interlace and that you need to resize. If you are resizing down to SD, you should select the smoother filter option on the settings screen – resizing options. This should help your downconversion.

    Note to the pictures:

This is an interlaced SD PAL (720×576) footage in an DaVinci SD Timeline! No Scaling!
So if i check “Enable video field processing” the picture gets worse.
I think this is a bug in the Software.

I just finished an SD 480i 29.97 NTSC (anamorphic digibeta) project myself and had to re-render everything with the field rendering turned off as well due to the same issues you are describing. Turning them off eliminated a lot of the field issues I was getting very similar to your picture. Can this be right?

(fyi I tested multiple shots with field rendering turned on and off and they always turned out much cleaner with field rendering left off)
