Field Monitor Advice

A lot depends on what you need the monitor to do. For critical monitoring by our video engineer we use the Panny BTLH1700W. However, for client and director monitors we use less expensive 8″ V-LCD8Pro Marshall SD LCDs (the HD is downconverted in the camera).

We use a BT LH1760 (the 1700 has a green tint that is very hard to get rid off, if even possible)

Well worth the money IMO and has some improvements over the 1700. Mainlely, fanless, 120hz refresh rate (gets a bit flickery though), and an SDI vectorscope (waveform still works for component), and more buttons to get to features. You won’t be able to mount on the camera of course, but you can buy a frame that adapts to a C-stand.

The bonus for that size is that you can also use it for editing if you want.

Seems to me the newer BT LH1760 also has a zoom feature that lets you display a section of your image at native 1920X1080 resolution, pixel for pixel which has to be nice for critical focusing. I think one of the new smaller pany monitors also has this feature. I seem to recall the 1760 has HD-SDI built in also whereas on the 1700 it was an option. I’m just going by memory here from reading the intro when the monitor was 1st released so be sure to confirm these points on the pany web site. Seems like a awesome monitor suitable for field and/or edit suite.

check closely the video inputs, remember the HVX only has component out.
