  • field / frame strobing problem with DVD

We’re having a problem exporting to DVD from the timeline. The DVDs look fine playing on computers, but has bad field strobing, especially on pans, when played back on tv monitors. The problem is consistent through the 30:00 show.

I am not the person actually producing the DVDs, but hopefully someone will know what settings need to be changed. FCP HD 5 on a G5.

    Thanks for your help.

Sounds almost like the fields may be reversed for some reason. Might check that.Make sure the field orders of all the clips match and are proper for the DVD.
    Just a thought.

If your timeline settings are correct (Command+0) then the problem could be a bad DVD encoding. I had this problem before and I resolved it by choosing a very low speed (i.e Speed 1) and NOT “Best” when encoding & burning the DVD in Toast. With “Spead 1” a 15 min timeline needs 45 min for the DVD (encoding-burning in Toast 6 on my G5 2G) but the quality is fine. You can do a test by selecting only a few seconds from your timeline and see if this works for you. I hope it will…

Thanks for the tips. Encoding was indeed the problem.
