Here’s a short film I’ve been working on. Would like an outsider perspective.
Thanks

February 15, 2011 at 2:10 amI love the underwater footage. I’ve seen a ton of underwater surfing, but the shallow water and dog legs is something very new.
I don’t get a sense of story. Who are the dogs. Is there a purpose to this? Is it just weekend fun? Didn’t thing the “dream sequence” really worked, going between the sleeping dog and the footage. Maybe slo mo the footage that the dog is dreaming about.
Still the light and flow of the water in the shallows and some of those dog shots looking up as they swim over is really unique. You have that going for you, now make it a story that I can understand. Introduce the dogs to me…show me how their character is different things like that.
Love that footage.

February 15, 2011 at 4:00 pmI’m with Rich on this one…..
some really nice underwater footage, but not enough variation to make it interesting for over three minutes.
I saw no story structure, just a montage of similar shots. Without a story, there is little to engage a viewer who was not actually involved with the shoot.
Be brutal – from the material used, you could get a really strong 30/40 sec piece that also tells a story and wouldn’t lose the audience halfway through.
Watch a bunch of quality tv ads, you’ll be amazed how much story and image can be put into a short timespan.
please post an update if you decide to do one.

February 15, 2011 at 7:11 pmGreat video.
I agree with the comments above. Although the footage is wonderful, a more defined storyline will push your shots beyond just being cool and different.
You have some great shots of the dogs running in the forest. Jumping in the water, Walking thru the water. All this can be organized into a great story as opposed to what seems like (at times, not always) a few blocks of wonderful montages of fun shots.
Check out the following link to see a piece that I think has the same types of shots that are in your piece, but with a more defined storyline. Although the shots may be similar, It is the story that pushes these shots well beyond just being cool and imaginative.https://jesserosten.com/2010/stellas-shasta-adventure
All the best,
Victor
