  • Feature request-Waveform/Vector overlays on video hub monitor out

Posted by Chris Tomberlin on April 29, 2005 at 1:59 pm

    Hey BMD guys,

Would it be possible via software to integrate an SD/HD waveform vectorscope into the video hub monitor outputs? It would be like buying a waveform/vector and getting the video hub for free!!

    Thanks

It would be nice if they can do this. Avid can do it with both Mojo and Adrenaline. Scopes, including 4 way view, can be output to the client monitor. It responsive and gives feedback during color correcting. Only downside is that it reverts to normal video when you hit the play button. Decklink can take this to another level by actually making it work during normal playback. It would basically eliminate hardware scopes for a lot of situations.

The software scopes on the AVID Mojo and Adrenaline are useless, and the request for scope alternatives is one of the #1 asked questions on the AVID-L list, so please don’t give the impression that AVID does it, and FCP does not. Even Eric Peters, one of the two inventors of the AVID, said that the AVID internal scopes were no substitute for an external set waveform/vectorscopes. Just for the record, the AVID scopes examine a SINGLE line of video, which can be selected with a slider. They do not examine the entire waveform.

I was refering to the one in the Color Correction tool and not the one access thru the Record Tool. The difference between the two is HUGE. Like I said, the only downside is it does not evaluate during playback [the Record Tool one does].

Also, unless I am mistaken there is no line selector for the CC scopes. There is for the Record/Input Tool.
