  • Feature Request – Red Raw Color Temp “as shot” Setting

(forgive me if this has already been posted, someone let me know if so, I know its been commented in previously)

Ok, just thought I’d post this as I’m on my fifth Red Raw project in DaVinci and this is really starting to annoy me, and moreso my clients (mainly the DP’s). I would love a setting for Color Temperature in the the Red Raw decoder project to set the color temp to whatever the camera was programmed to on set. This of course would be independent of the color and gamma space settings (unlike the “camaera metadata” option currently available).

I typically use a custom pdLog setting for gamma and set color space to redspace, but I am constantly having to check the red codec settings for the color temp of the shot (and sometimes depending on the scene these can change a lot and be very specific). If there was a setting that automatically set it to whatever the camera was set to on-set my life would be greatly easier in getting the footage to an intended starting point for grading(and I wouldn’t be getting complaints from DP’s asking why this isn’t automatic).

    Hi Chris,

    This should already work.

    Try this:

    1. Set the Config page to point to Camera Metadata
    2. Now, either select all clips on Color page, or Select all clips in Media Pool
    3. Edit Red Settings
    4. Change settings to Clip under “Master Red Decoder Settings”
    5. Now change the setting to RedLog, etc., and choose Apply Changes

At this point of time, all settings for all clips should be what the camera was set to, and only the specified settings would be changed.

Please let us know if this works for you.

    Regards,
    Rohit

Rohit, thank you. I had tried that before but was misusing the “apply all” key on the red settings tab (I mistakenly thought this meant to apply to all selected clips). Understanding now that it refers to apply all settings to the selected clip or clips, OR just “apply changes” to the selected clip or clips. Making sense now. and indeed your procedure works great. Thanks for your prompt response on this! (I’m kicking myself for not investigating this further on the first 4 red projects I did!)
